Dr. Thomas Scheben I am German, 41 years of age, unmarried. I was born in Lbeck at the Baltic coast and grew up in the centre of Germany near Kassel in Hessen. After military service in the armored infantry, discharged as a corporal, I studied law, oriental languages and history of the Middle East. My dissertation focused on the reforms in 19th century Ottoman Empire. In my professional life, I started as district secretary of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the party of Chancellor Helmut Kohl, and joined a former GDR daily newspaper after the reunification as their correspondent for governmental affairs. Since 1994, I am representing the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation, an organization close to the CDU, here in Egypt, were we administer development projects and act as a liaison officer in the political field. Amongst my hobbies are horseback-riding and fencing. I joined the dippy and wargamers' community in 1975 and acted later as founder and first editor of the only German wargame magazine ,Der Musketier" (one Charlie so far) and of the German wargamer association as well. Here and there I contributed to US-magazines like ,Strategy & Tactics" and ,Command Magazine"; for Ty Bomba I worked as a developer and playtester of some of his early designs. Special fields of interest are military history in general, European wars, the American Civil War, the Middle East and from WWII the Eastfront and North Africa in particular. Of course, I also enjoy games like Junta, History of the World and Republic of Rome, having had a lot of fun especially with Junta; sad enough, that there aren't any players around here in Egypt (at least I did not meet some). Because of this, I play a couple of games by mail.
